CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

27 August 2018

After a brilliant drive in very tricky conditions at Eagles Rock, Gerard O'Connell has forced himself into contention to be the 2018 Millers Oils Hillclimb Champion.     The win for the Dungiven man in his Radical together with a no score for Ricky McGimpsey has swung the Championship table dramatically.     Having led all season, a muscle injury suffered on the bumps of Spamount caused Ricky to miss the Cairncastle double header and he hasn't been able to regain his momentum since.   A difficult day at Eagles Rock left him outside the points and allowed O'Connell to jump ahead in the race for the tltle.     All is not lost for Ricky however, as the points difference and the dropped score rule mean quite simply that winner takes all at the final round at Knockagh.    So a titanic battle for the Title awaits between two fine drivers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The Saloon Championships were settled at Eagles Rock.     Oliver Cormican has had a stellar season in his Crozier Motorsport prepared Evo and took a brilliant 3rd overall at Eagles Rock, securing him his first modified saloon title.   Paul Montgomery's rapid Impreza retained the Roadgoing Saloon title after a dominant season.                                                                                                                                                                           Most of the Class Championships are now settled but the Hawthorne twins are fighting to the finish over Class 7, Seamus Morris and Daniel Campbell contest Class 11 Rallycars and Brendan Flynn and John Donnelly are neck and neck in Class 14.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    So, on to Knockagh in two weeks for the decider, Gerard or Ricky, Radical or RMG - winner takes all !
