Newry and District Motor club dates back to the early 1930's and its aims are to promote and develop motor sport in the general area. The club is one of the longest established in Northern Ireland and has a selection of trophies which date back to those early days when motor racing took place at Cranfield Aerodrome and the Irish Experts Trials took place in the border region.
Today the clubs focus is Rallies and Hill Climbs. The Irish Experts Trial has evolved into the Mourne Rally, a challenging tarmac event that is both a round of the ANICC and Border championships. The historical Spelga Hill Climb is no more and has moved to a new hill at Gilford and is now called the Drumhorc Hill Climb. The Circuit of Down navigational rally uses some of the most challenging roads in the country and is an excellent event for both experts and new starts in the sport.
The club also runs a number of Karting nights at Formula Karting, Newry for members and invited guests. The committee meets in Formula Karting, Newry on the first Tuesday of every month at 8.00pm.
