2020
opens another new chapter in the history of our Club. The calendar of events
(see below) reflects our continued focus on providing quality events for
competitors, members and spectators alike.
The
Club are delighted to be associated with our sister company which is re-introducing
the Circuit of Ireland International
Rally a round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship at Easter (April 10
& 11). The current event sponsor, Wastewater Solutions is continuing their
support and we not only thank them but look forward to a long and lasting
relationship into the future. This two day spectacle promises to be one of the
paramount rounds in 2020 utilising some of the best tarmac stages in Ireland.
The
first May bank holiday sees the Simon Brien Residential Hill Climb at Craigantlet. This event is over 11
decades old and growing in stature every year. One of the superlative rounds of
the British Hill Climb and ANICC Championships on closed public roads it
attracts some of the most talented drivers in the UK. In 2019 the current 'Hill'
record was equalled by an excellent drive from Dave Uren. We are aware that it is only a matter of time
before the 39 second barrier will be crossed.
The
championship Auto-test has been
'kicked' to the beginning of August from its traditional May date which will be
an interesting development.
Knockagh Hill
Climb returns
to its regular slot on the second weekend in September; the final round of the
ANICC Hill Climb Championship, a sure-fire opportunity to see the best talent
take on this challenge for man and machine.
The
Club really appreciate the support from The North Down House Bistro for our October Sprint at Kirkistown, the
penultimate round of the ANICC Championship, which has proved to be one of the
most exciting tussles for points during the year.
Christmas
is a time to spend with family and friends and what better way to get some
fresh air than to come out and join us on It's
Not The Boxing Day Rally on the 28th of December this year (the 27th is a
Sunday!). This event is always
oversubscribed within less than a day of entries opening, cause it's a great
day of festive fun!!
The
Club also organise events that don't need a car to enter. We have an annual
Charity function, which happens, rain hail or snow to raise money for our
chosen charity. In 2019 we raised over £300 for the N.I. Children's Hospice, thanks to all who supported this worthy
cause - picture of the presentation. 2020 sees Prostrate Cancer as our chosen charity and we hope to continue the
support of our members and competitors to battle this common condition.
Why not come and join us in 2020 and enjoy yourself driving, navigating
or marshalling on one of our events?
The Club has a membership over 300, but are always keen
to recruit new members and competitors into the sport and we manage to fit in several social events
throughout the year. We have just launched our Future Champions programme,
rewarding 4 young members with £500 each to assist their motorsport activities
in 2020, more information on our website ( www.ulsterautomobile.club) and
facebook page.
Look
forward to seeing you out there!!
